Green Tiger
Green Tiger Tomatoes
A real showstopper on the vine! Green Tiger tomatoes are a striking cherry-sized variety that ripen to a beautiful green with golden-yellow stripes — no, they’re not unripe! Sweet, tangy, and bursting with flavour, they add a gourmet twist to salads and summer dishes. A must-grow for anyone who loves something a little different in the garden.
Best Time to Plant
Plant in a greenhouse from April. If planting outside, wait until the third week of May when all frosts have passed. If a late frost hits and the leaves turn blue, don’t panic — they’ll usually recover once the weather warms up.
Harvest
Around 8 weeks after planting, when the tomatoes are plump, green with golden stripes, and slightly soft to the touch.
Growing Instructions
• Planting: Space 45cm apart in well-drained soil, large pots, or growbags in a sunny, sheltered position.
• Support: Train vines up string or canes, twisting clockwise as they grow. Remove side shoots regularly to encourage fruiting.
• Feeding: Only start feeding once you see 3–4 tomatoes swelling — too much feed early on can delay fruiting.
• Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy; uneven watering can lead to split fruit.
• Maintenance: Remove any yellowing or dead leaves, and pinch out the growing tip in August to focus the plant’s energy on ripening.
Top Tips
• Spot the Ripe Ones: Label plants clearly — Green Tigers look unripe even when they’re ready!
• Consistent Watering: Try to water at the same time each day for even fruit development.
• Avoid Farmyard Manure: It can contain weed killer residues that may harm your crop. Use tomato feed instead.
