F1 Below Zero
Each plug has 2–3 plants in.
Below Zero Leeks
A superb British-bred leek built for the coldest winters. Below Zero is rust-resistant, incredibly hardy, and forms strong white stems with dark green tops that stand beautifully without bolting. A long-term crop that pays off all winter, while its deep roots help break up heavy soil as it grows.
Harvest
August to March — pull early for tender baby leeks.
Growing Instructions
• Planting: Plant as a bunch (do not separate) and space 15cm apart in well-drained soil.
• Position: Sunny but sheltered spot.
• Watering: Keep well watered until established and during dry periods.
• Blanching: As the plants establish, mound soil up the stems (but not over the leaves) to lengthen the tender white shaft. Continue topping up as they grow.
Top Tips
• Companion Planting: Grow with carrots — they protect each other from carrot fly and leek moth.
• Steady Moisture: Consistent watering keeps stems tender and straight.
• Winter Hardy: Leave in the ground — flavour improves in cold weather.
• Soil Prep: Dig deep before planting to help roots penetrate and strengthen.
