Red Baron Onion
The Red Baron Onion stands out with its rich, deep crimson skins and crisp, juicy texture. Renowned for its bold, sweet-yet-tangy flavor, this variety adds vibrant color and punch to every dish. Stronger in taste than most red onions, it’s a reliable, high-yielding crop with excellent storage qualities—perfect for both kitchen gardens and culinary showpieces.
Harvest
Ready from July to October, when the foliage turns yellow. Lift the entire bunch together—don’t separate the bulbs until needed. Allow them to dry naturally in the sunshine for a couple of days before storing.
Growing Instructions
Spacing: Plant bunches 25cm apart. Do not separate individual plants, as this can damage the roots—they’ll spread naturally as they grow.
Position: Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil to encourage strong bulb development.
Best Results: Ideal for outdoor beds or raised planters with fertile soil. Keep the area weed-free and ensure good airflow around the plants.
Watering: Keep well-watered during dry spells and while plants establish, but avoid waterlogging to prevent rot.
Shade: In very hot weather, provide light shade to prevent stress and bolting.
Feeding: Apply a balanced liquid feed every few weeks once the bulbs begin to swell for the best yields.
