Pot Marigold
(Hardy Annual)
Pot Marigold
A cheerful and versatile garden favourite, Pot Marigolds brighten borders and containers with their large, sunny yellow and orange blooms from summer to early autumn. Easy to grow and self-seeding, they reach up to 50cm high. The edible petals add a splash of colour and mild flavour to salads, desserts, and garnishes, making them both beautiful and useful in the kitchen.
Planting
• Where: Beds or containers in well-drained soil, in full sun. Self-seeds readily for future blooms.
Care
• Watering: Water regularly to establish, then moderately as Calendulas are drought-tolerant.
• Maintenance: Remove spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming.
Height & Spread
• Size: 45 – 60cm × 30 – 45cm.
Harvesting
• Flowers: Gently pick florets in the morning when colours are brightest. Regular harvesting encourages more flowers but leave some to maintain growth.
Top Tips
• Culinary Use: Sprinkle petals on salads, desserts, or use as a vibrant garnish.
• Companion Planting: Pot Marigolds can help deter pests in vegetable gardens.
• Succession Blooms: Allow some flowers to self-seed for a continuous display next year.
