Each plug contains 5–10 healthy young plants!
Perpetual Spinach
(Also known as Spinach Beet)
Extremely easy to grow and perfect for anyone short on time! Perpetual Spinach produces a mass of succulent, dark green leaves with lighter green stems. It’s a fantastic all-season variety that rarely goes to seed until its second year. Ideal for salads, cooking, or as a cut-and-come-again crop that keeps producing through autumn and winter.
Harvest
Roughly 6 weeks after planting. Pick leaves regularly to encourage new growth — if left too long, they may taste bitter.
Growing Instructions
-
How to Plant: Plant the plug whole — try not to separate the plants, as this will spoil the root structure and may harm the plant.
-
Spacing: Space each plug about 30cm apart to give plenty of room for leafy growth.
-
Positioning: Choose a sunny or partially shaded spot. Great for raised beds, borders, or large containers.
-
Best Results: Keep plants growing steadily for tender, delicious leaves. Harvest often to promote continuous new growth.
-
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during dry weather. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely to prevent bitterness.
-
Shade: Tolerates light shade — ideal in summer to protect from heat stress. A little shade during the hottest part of the day helps maintain leaf quality.
Top Tips
-
When to Harvest: Pick leaves early in the morning when they’re full of moisture for the best flavour and texture.
-
How to Harvest: Remove the outer leaves first and allow the centre to keep producing. This encourages steady, long-term growth.
-
Extending the Harvest: Regular picking promotes new leaves and prevents the plant from becoming tough or bitter.
-
Storage Tip: Freshly picked leaves will last longer if stored in a cool, damp cloth or airtight container in the fridge.
-
Bonus Tip: Feed occasionally with a mild liquid fertiliser to keep plants lush and productive through the whole season.
