F1 Pepinex
Pepinex Cucumber
Specially bred for the unpredictable English climate, Pepinex is a cucumber you can trust for big, beautiful harvests — even in cooler summers. This all-female variety produces long, smooth, dark green cucumbers with thin skins, gentle ribbing, and a crisp, bitter-free flavour. In a really hot summer they’ll grow impressively large, but they always stay sweet, refreshing, and reliably delicious. Best grown in a greenhouse, but hardy enough for outdoors after May/June.
Harvest
May to November, roughly 8–10 weeks after planting, once the end of the cucumber turns from pointed to rounded.
Growing Instructions
• Planting: Space 45cm apart in a growbag or well-prepared soil in a sunny, sheltered spot (kept above 16°C — they hate draughts!).
• Training: Train stems clockwise up a 6ft string, cane, or stake.
– Remove side shoots and flowers up to 30cm.
– After that, continue removing side shoots as the plant climbs.
– Once at the top, allow it to grow naturally back down.
• Watering: Keep soil consistently moist — never let it dry out.
• Feeding: Feed only when two cucumbers have begun to develop — not before.
• Maintenance: Remove yellow or dead leaves to keep plants healthy and productive.
Top Tips
• Harvest Often: Picking regularly encourages a long, steady supply of new cucumbers.
• Humidity Helps: Cucumbers love moisture in the air — place a bucket of water in the greenhouse and dampen paths in hot weather.
• No Manure: Avoid farmyard manure, which can contain herbicide residues harmful to cucumbers.
• Greenhouse Gains: Although they’ll grow outdoors, Pepinex cucumbers are at their absolute best under cover.
