Size: 6 x medium plug plants

An old reliable favourite with medium length pods, good flavour and long harvesting period not as vigorous as the other varieties.

Painted Lady Runner Beans

A real showstopper in the garden! Painted Lady runner beans are a traditional favourite, producing masses of vibrant red and white flowers that look as good as they taste. The medium-length pods are packed with flavour, offering a long, generous harvest season. Less vigorous than some varieties, they’re perfect for smaller spaces — beautiful, reliable, and delicious!

Harvest

From June onwards, pick the pods before the beans start to swell for the best flavour and texture.

Growing Instructions

Planting: Space plants 25cm apart in well-drained soil beside a trellis, net, or cane.
Training: Guide the vines upwards and let them trail back down once they reach the top.
Position: Choose a sunny but sheltered spot and protect from frost.
Watering: Keep well watered until established and during dry spells.
Feeding: Feed every other week after the first beans have formed — not before!
Pollination: Plant Gardeners Kitchen ‘Sweet Peas’ alongside to encourage pollinators.

Top Tips

Pick Often: Regular harvesting keeps the beans tender and encourages more pods to grow.
Flower Power: Painted Lady is as decorative as it is productive — perfect for brightening up your patio or veg patch.
Companion Plants: Grow nasturtiums nearby to deter bean beetles and keep your plants healthy.
