Ormskirk Savoy Cabbage
A true winter hero and a traditional favourite! This classic savoy cabbage is known for its solid, heavy hearts, pale green centres, and beautiful blue-green crinkled leaves. It’s tough enough to withstand frosty weather and will sit happily in the ground until you’re ready to harvest — even in time for your Christmas dinner!
Harvest
From July through to the following spring, once the heads are firm and well-formed.
Growing Instructions
• Planting: Space 30–45cm apart in humus-rich, moist soil in full sun or partial shade.
• Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells.
• Feeding: Apply a liquid fertiliser every two weeks to encourage strong growth.
• Protection: Use fine netting to keep cabbage white butterflies away from your plants.
Top Tips
• Succession Planting: Plant every 4 weeks to keep your cabbage harvest rolling through the seasons.
• Frost Friendly: Leave mature heads in the ground — a touch of frost actually sweetens the flavour.
• Firm Foundations: Press the soil firmly around the base to help form dense, solid heads.
