This popular easy to grow pea produces loads of thick pods bursting with roughly 6-8 sweet juicy peas!
Categories: Pea - Patio, Pea - Patio, Pea - Patio
Description
Onward is one of the most popular pea varieties to grow and used by many commercial growers. It's easy to grow and produces high yields of thick double pods, bursting with roughly 6-8 sweet juicy peas!
Harvest
Roughly 5-6 weeks after planting, when the peas have developed inside. Best eaten once freshly picked or cooked within 30 minutes.
Growing Instructions
There are 2 ways to grow these- 1 - Carefully plant 10cm apart in well drained soil, in a sunny but sheltered position. As they get bigger, they will need support with either pea sticks, trellis or even twigs. OR 2 - The easiest way (and the way we do it) is just plant them 10cm apart, just let them grow wild. Harvesting this way is more of a challenge to spot the peas, but great fun for the kids to try and find them. Keep well watered until established and in dry weather.
Tip
Plant every four weeks for a continuous supply.
Companion Plants
Do not plant Onions or Garlic near peas as it can stunt their growth.
