Musselburgh
SKU
186RV
Each plug has 2-3 plants in.
Description
A reliable old favourite and easy to grow and extremely hardy. A medium height leek with dark green leaves and fairly large tender white stalks with a mild flavour. They are easy to clean and taste great, can be picked early for 'baby leeks'. Leeks are a long investment, but well worth the wait, giving you a supply of tasty vegetables all winter long and their strong root structure helps break up heavy soil.
Harvest
August to March (pull earlier for baby leeks)
Growing Instructions
Plant as a bunch 15cm apart in a sunny but sheltered position in well drained soil. Keep well watered until established and in dry weather. Once the leeks start to establish, you can help lengthen the white stem by mounding the soil either side of the stem up towards the green leaves (but not over them this will bury them) keep topping up as the leeks grow.
Tip
Plant leeks and carrots together as they protect each other from carrot fly and leek moth.
