Butterhead Lettuce – Classic Variety
A long-time favourite among gardeners, this compact butterhead lettuce produces very shiny, bright green leaves with a semi-open, heavy, voluminous head and a well-formed base. Tender, flavourful leaves make it ideal for salads and sandwiches.
Harvest:
May to November – pick as needed for fresh, homegrown leaves throughout the season.
Growing Instructions:
-
Spacing: Plant 30cm apart.
-
Position: Sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil.
-
Watering: Keep well-watered while establishing and during dry spells to prevent bolting.
Top Tip:
- Sow or plant every 3 weeks for a steady, continuous harvest.
- If your cut lettuce starts to wilt, revive it by placing it in a bowl of iced water – it’ll perk right up.
