Green Bush Marrow
Compact, productive, and packed with flavour, it's the classic marrow variety everyone loves to grow! Its neat, bushy habit makes it perfect for smaller gardens, yet it still produces lots of medium-length green fruits with pale stripes and bright yellow flowers. Harvest young as tender baby marrows or let them grow into full-sized whoppers that store brilliantly through winter. A true allotment favourite!
Harvest
June to October
• Pick at 15cm for baby marrows (like chunky courgettes).
• Leave to around 30cm for traditional full-sized marrows.
Growing Instructions
• Planting: Space 60cm apart in well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered spot.
• Watering: Keep well watered until established and throughout dry spells.
• Feeding: Feed only once fruits begin to develop — not before.
• Care: Remove any dead or yellowing leaves to improve air flow and let the sunshine in.
Top Tips
• Winter Storage: Harvest before the first frosts — marrows store exceptionally well in cool, dry conditions.
• Skin Smart: Marrow skins are tougher than courgettes; peel before or after cooking for the best texture.
• Meal Ideas: Perfect for stuffing, roasting, or turning into warming autumn soups.
