Pardon
Description
Also known as 'Pimientos de Padron' a traditional tapa's pepper that is celebrated yearly in a town in Spain called 'Pardon'. This compact chillie plant will produce lots of small chillies with a mild heat if picked early, if left on to grow will intensify the heat. These can be eaten raw, stuffed, grilled, or added to stir fry's, a really great all round chili.
Harvest
June to October (When they are swollen and glossy)
Growing
Plant 45cm apart in a sunny but sheltered position in well drained soil. They prefer to be in a greenhouse but can be grown in a pot in a conservatory or in a sunny spot on the patio but you will not get much of a crop outside. Chillies like water! Keep them well watered until established and in dry weather (but not soggy). If we have an intensely hot summer (which is rare I know) you will need to give them some shade to protect their delicate leaves. Once they reach roughly 30cm they will need staking for support as the chillies start to grow. Feed them once you see at least 2 or 3 chillies growing NOT before.
Tip
Wash your hands immediately after touching chilli's. All peppers/chillies suffer from cold feet so they are better grown in a grow bag or pot/container because they warm up quicker than soil. If you have only one chilli growing and you see no others forming, pick it, this will encourage more to grow.
