A novel alternative to conventional carrots with excellent colour and flavour.
Details

Each plug contains 2–3 healthy young plants!

Chantenay
A charming, easy-to-grow variety producing short, stubby carrots bursting with sweetness and colour! These compact roots are perfect for shallow soils, raised beds, or containers. Their smooth skin means no peeling needed — just wash, cook, and enjoy. Quick to mature, deliciously tender, and packed with flavour that stays even after cooking.

Harvest
July to October – lift when roots are firm and rounded. Remove soil, store in dry sand, and keep carrots separated to prevent rotting.

Growing Instructions

  • Planting: Do not separate – plant each plug as a bunch; the carrots will naturally spread out.

  • Spacing: Space 15–20cm apart for best growth.

  • Watering: Water well until established and regularly during dry spells to avoid splitting.

  • Continuity: Plant every 3 weeks for a steady harvest all season long.

  • Weeding: Avoid weeding during the day – disturbed soil attracts carrot fly.

  • Companion Planting: Grow near leeks for natural pest protection — they help guard each other from carrot fly and leek moth.

Top Tips

  • Container Friendly: Ideal for pots, planters, or small gardens.

  • Best Flavour: Harvest young for tender, extra-sweet carrots.

  • Pest Control: Cover with fine mesh to keep carrot fly at bay.

  • Easy Cooking: Roast whole, steam, or toss in a salad — no peeling required!

  • Storage Tip: Store clean, dry roots in layers of sand or sawdust to keep them fresh for months.
