Basil – Thai
Exotic, fragrant, and wonderfully versatile, Thai Basil is a must-have for Southeast Asian cooking. Its narrow, bright green serrated leaves and sturdy purple stems are perfect for infusing intense flavour into curries, soups, and stir-fries. Spikes of dark violet flowers add an ornamental touch while the aromatic leaves fill your garden or kitchen with a fresh, spicy scent.
Planting
• Where: Well-drained soil or a pot in full sun—ideal for a windowsill, conservatory, or a sunny, sheltered garden spot.
• When: Plant after the last frost to ensure strong growth.
Care
• Watering: Keep well watered until established and during dry periods, but avoid waterlogging.
• Protection: Shield plants from frost, slugs, and snails.
• Climate: Thrives in warmth and will struggle if exposed to cold conditions.
Height & Spread
• Size: 40–50cm tall × 30–40cm wide.
Harvesting
• How: Pinch or snip leaves as needed, preferably in the morning when the essential oils are strongest.
• Tip: Never remove more than one-third of the leaves at once to maintain healthy growth.
Top Tips
• Pinch Out Flower Spikes to encourage bushier plants and more leaves.
• Harvest Regularly to promote continuous growth and keep leaves tender.
• Feed Lightly if leaves start to yellow.
• Perfect Companion: Grows well near tomatoes and peppers, helping deter pests naturally.
