With its exuberant claret hues and pronounced basil flavour this variety never fails to make a tasty and colourful impression. It has the same culinary uses as Sweet Basil but is also a wonderful ornamental plant with its deep purple leaves and pale pink flowers
Planting
Plant in well-drained soil, or in a pot, in full sun on your windowsill, or in a sunny, sheltered position in your garden.
Care
Keep well watered until established, and in dry weather, take care not to over water. Protect from frost, slugs and snails.
Height & Spread:
30 – 45cm × 25 – 40cm.
Harvesting
Use scissors or fingertips to pinch off leaves as required. Harvest in the morning, when the essential oils are most concentrated, and avoid taking more than one-third of the leaves at a time.
