Growing Instructions

Carefully separate 2-4 seedling clumps together and plant each clump 15cm apart, in well-drained soil next to a trellis/net or cane as they are good climbers. A good bucket full of compost dug in to the site beforehand will help to hold moister and enrich the soil. Position in a sunny but sheltered site and as they begin to grow, you can help them, by loosely tying them to the supports so they don’t flop around. Keep well watered until established and in dry weather, if they are kept to dry, it will force them to go to seed. Dead head and pick any seed heads off once a week to promote new growth. Young plants will need protection from the frost and slugs, and feed every other week once growing strong and flowering.

Tip

Pick the growing tip out to encourage side shoots, this will promote more flowers. They might get a bit top heavy and may need tying up to help keep them straight this will help to give you straighter stems for cut flowers. Companion planting Sweet peas help attract pollinators to your vegetable garden they are perfect when planted with climbing or runner beans.
