Description and Uses
(Perennial)This vigorous invasive growing root is part of the mustard family and when eaten raw, has a very hot tangy taste. Perfect for your roast beef dinner and can also be used in cocktails. Long, dark green, oval ended leaves that are quite rough to touch, they have four petal white flowers that look alot like their close brassica relative.
Harvest
Lift once the roots are large enough in the autumn or if left, they will be better the following year. Remember to leave some of the roots as these will grow on to produce more.
Growing Instructions
Plant 30cm apart in well-drained soil. Preferably in a pot or container as Horseradish is very invasive. Keep well watered until established and in dry weather. Leaves can grow up to 1meter tall and in the autumn they will die back so will need tidying up. Each spring you will see new shoots pop up. Keep an eye on them, as they can take over your garden.
Tip
Like onions, Horseradish can make your eyes water when cutting.
